It is advisable that you book your travel in advance at all times of the year, and ESSENTIAL that you do so in the summer months when ferries and planes can be booked solid.
If you are arriving anywhere other than Tarbert without your own transport, arrangements may be made to collect you for a small charge.
UIG (Skye) to TARBERT
Come over the sea to Skye - via the spectacular Skye Bridge and drive past the famous Cuillin mountains to get to Uig at the north end of the island. This is the shortest and most direct crossing – it takes 1¾ hours on the MV Hebrides.
ULLAPOOL to STORNOWAY
This crossing takes 2¾ hours on the MV Isle of Lewis, followed by a drive to Harris for which you should allow about an hour.
BERNERAY to LEVERBURGH
Useful if you are travelling the "Barra to Butt of Lewis" route, either by car or bike. Takes about an hour. Leverburgh is about 30 minutes from Tarbert by car.
Travel by train to Oban and catch the ferry for Barra at the south end of the Outer Hebrides, or go to Kyle of Lochalsh and get a bus through Skye to join the ferry at Uig. www.scotrail.co.uk
